One Mom's Thoughts about Mike Huckabee, August 9, 2007

When Ronald Reagan wrote a letter to the American people on November 5, 1994 telling us of his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease, he had a closing comment that eloquently summed up how he loved this country and how he felt about being her 40th President:

“In closing, let me thank you, the American people, for giving me the great honor of allowing me to serve as your President. When the Lord calls me home, whenever that may be, I will leave with the greatest love for this country of ours and eternal optimism for its future”. (from “I love you Ronnie: the letters of Ronald Reagan to Nancy Reagan”, 2000).

As I have been thinking a great deal about our country and this upcoming Presidential campaign that has greater implications regarding our freedoms, our security, our very way of life, more than any campaign in recent memory, my thoughts have turned to the President that I believe was the finest our country has seen in my lifetime … Ronald Reagan.

President Reagan loved this country … it truly was his great honor to serve as our President. His was not a presidency based on his need for personal power, but in a sincere desire and belief that he could work as our President to make this country greater and stronger, and an even brighter city on the hill.

When I first saw Mike Huckabee on television being interviewed, my initial thoughts were of President Reagan. I found in Mike Huckabee a man with a sincere heart, a gift for open, honest (yet always kind and fair-minded) communication with whomever he was talking. I saw a man with a passion and love for this country that I have not found in any politician since Ronald Reagan left the Oval office.

Mike Huckabee is running for President of the United States of America because he believes he has a responsibility to serve and to work to make our country greater and stronger … and just maybe restore a little of the brightness to the city on the hill that we have lost in recent years. And the thing you need to know my dear reader, is that Mike Huckabee is the very person who can restore honor to the office of President … hope to our citizens … economic strength and opportunity for all of us … security to our borders … a renewed strong relationship with our allies around the world.

As a parent – a homeschooling mom – and as a Christian, I firmly believe that should any candidate (from any party) other than Mike Huckabee be elected as our next President, we will face greater concerns with terror at home and abroad, and we will face worsening economic conditions for all but the very rich (Mike Huckabee is not one of the very rich candidates, he will fight for those of us working and in many cases struggling in this current economy). If Mike Huckabee is not elected President, we face bigger government infringing on more and more of our freedoms.

Though the first Primaries are more than 4 months away, and the general election is more than a year away, I truly believe that right now – TODAY – this Presidential campaign is one of personal and national urgency. We cannot allow the media or the biggest bank accounts to determine the direction our country will go in. We need a true conservative, of proven leadership – a person of conviction, moral character, strength and gentleness in just the right balance … a person who is able to work with every side of a political aisle and bring unity to diverse groups to accomplish those things that will make our people and our country stronger … a person that will restore HOPE to all who are proud to be Americans. That person is Mike Huckabee.

Please join me today in praying for Mike Huckabee as the Iowa Straw Poll is this Saturday. The ground swell is beginning and the support is growing, but it will take all of us working together to get Mike Huckabee to Washington as our next President. Christians, conservatives, parents … we cannot assume that the right person will end up on the ballot in November 2008, we must work and support (with our prayers, our money, our time) to make certain that Mike Huckabee not only wins the Republican Nomination, but that he wins the general election as well.

The time is now people. As I said in an earlier blog posting, “All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing” … please don’t be the reason that evil wins in the next election. We needed Ronald Reagan in 1980 and in 1984. In 2008, we need Mike Huckabee, but the only way for that to happen is for each of us to do all we can to carry this man to the office of President. He needs our support, and our country needs Mike Huckabee.

God bless the United States of America -

  1. Kerry,
Wow, the perfect Huck post written at the perfect time: right before the straw poll. Great job!

  2. I am joining you in prayer today, Kerry!
This post was wonderfully written and it is easy to tell it really came from the heart. I hope many people come upon this blog post..

  3. Regardless of the results of tonight’s Straw Poll in Iowa, God is going to do something amazing with Mike Huckabee. I am praying for a win, but won’t be disappointed with a loss. Why? Because my hope doesn’t depend on a straw poll in Iowa, my hope rests in the Lord. Win or lose, His favor is evident on Mike Huckabee. In 1992, God allowed Gov. Huckabee to lose so that he might attain a greater role of leading the people of Arkansas as Lt. Gov. and Governor for 13+ years.

A win tonight means that role will very likely be as the Republican nominee for President in 2008. If the Governor loses, I can’t wait to see the greater role that God has in store for a true man of faith and integrity.

    Here’s hoping for God’s best,
    Mike
