Hello Everybody!
What a great day it has been! Although waiting more than 90 minutes past the time Iowa Straw Poll results were suppose to be announced was agonizing, it certainly turned out to be worth the wait.
As you have no doubt read/heard by now, Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee placed a strong second in the Ames Iowa Straw Poll receiving over 18% of the 14,203 votes placed. Coming in first was former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, with 31% of the vote. If I may offer my opinion here, Huckabee’s second place was a much bigger victory than Romney’s first place. Romney spent millions of dollars in Iowa, rented a huge number of buses and bought large blocks of tickets so Iowans could get to Ames and vote for him … and yet he only managed to get 31% of the vote. Then we have Mike Huckabee – did not have the campaign coffers or personal finances (a small fraction) of Romney’s pot of money, and yet he received over 18% of the vote … and he received more than 1/2 of Romney’s total.
Mike Huckabee campaigned in Iowa (as he does every where) with integrity, with passion, with a clean and honest heart, with straight answers to any question posed to him – no matter if it comes from a nationally recognized journalist, or a grandmother in a coffee shop somewhere in Iowa … each person received a direct answer to whatever the question asked.
Mike Huckabee does not slide around the issues, he addresses them head-on. He is more concerned about getting his message out to the people and letting them get to know him then he is with trying to tear down his opponents. As can be seen in Iowa, when people have a chance to hear Mike Huckabee’s message and to get to know the person of Mike Huckabee, they choose to vote for him. The people of America are not looking for a hollow, pretty candidate … they are looking for a President with heart, compassion, integrity, and a plan to grow this country and preserve our freedoms, our constitution, our very foundation.
The results of the Iowa Straw Poll are the perfect springboard for moving this campaign and getting Mike Huckabee’s message out to all Americans in the coming months. He can’t do it alone though … he needs each of us to tell others … he needs the prayerful support of Christians … he needs people writing letters to newspapers and setting up blogs on the internet (don’t forget to add your supportive blog to the Huckabee Blog Roll) … he needs your financial support so that his message can reach larger groups of people (he would love to shake every hand of every American and talk to them personally, but we know that’s not humanly possible, so money is needed to support speaking appearances at larger venues and of course media advertising in print, television, internet and radio).
This evening, our family is praising God for this victory for Mike Huckabee (and the American people) in Ames, Iowa. This is only the beginning … it is the first of many victories, and also the beginning of a much larger campaign in need of volunteers, money, and always prayer support.
It has been a VERY good day!
Kerry

Joining you and your family in praising God for this victory! Thanks again for all the great work you do here, especially for staying strong and positive even when some of us start to crumble:)! May God continue to bless you and Mike Huckabee!
Mom, congratulations to you and others who “live and die with Mike” on a great victory in the Ames Straw Poll. You are right to emphasize the need for money. It’s a big country out there, and you can’t go door-to-door. By Labor Day, things will be heating up significantly and within five months most of America will have held caucuses and primaries, and it will be clear who the nominee is. The media will show more interest in Mike, but he is going to have to advertise in selected states, especially New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina, and Florida. He will need to win two of those four and come close in the the other two in order to win the nomination.
