- We are over the fevers from the flu, but it has now settled in our chests, along with heavy coughs. Still worn out, but better than a week ago.
- CNN is apparently drinking Christina Romer’s kool-aid. They just aired a report encouraging people to spend and indulge themselves, because without indulgement we cannot be happy.
- I continue sending out resumes, cover letters and CVs to public health/health promotion jobs around the country. So far I have applied for jobs in the following states: Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Texas, New Hampshire, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Wyoming and Montana. So far no nibbles, but no flat-out rejections either, so that’s better than a kick in the head.
- Looking for work is one of my least favorite things to do – ever. It is time consuming and a bit demeaning. Having to sell myself is no fun, especially when in probably 99% of instances, the effort will be met with rejection.
- Many of the employers with job openings I qualify for are accepting applications online. Seems as though that should make the process faster, but in reality, those are more time-consuming than just putting my papers in an envelope and putting a stamp on them. These electronic submissions first ask me to upload my resume and cover letter, which is fine, but then they want their own forms filled out with all the information that is on my resume. Typically, this is followed by a couple pages of personality/psychology type questions. It took me two hours yesterday to apply for a job in Idaho!
- We’ve had three different opportunities for a little good news this week regarding property in South Carolina, but each opportunity fell flat. We sure could use a little good news right now.
- With Duke and Memphis losing last night, my basketball bracket has fallen apart.
- Compared to what the folks in North Dakota are facing today, our life isn’t so bad.
