I Didn't Do It

Early today, late-term abortion doctor George Tiller was shot and killed at a Lutheran Church in Kansas. A suspect is in custody, though his identity and motive have not been identified.

As a Christian and ardently pro-life, I do not condone this shooting – whatever the motive was. If I supported this type of action, that would hardly make me “pro-life” (I don’t support the death penalty either).

Sadly there are pro-life supporters who celebrate this man’s death. I am sorry for the loss his family has suffered and for all those who witnessed this violent act at church this morning.

On the other side, there are pro-abortion supporters who now blame all pro-lifers for the murder of George Tiller.  A columnist in Kansas City has already referred to anyone who wanted this man’s abortion clinic to close as “accomplices” to the murder.

I do not know the person who pulled the trigger or his motive, but if it was a person taking a stand against abortion, then I would like to say to him “thanks a lot for dragging the entire pro-life community into your pool of hypocrisy … you have made our work so much harder now”.

Thanks for posting this, Kerry. You make a very valid point. It’s sad that someone who considers themselves pro-life would think it is okay to make their point in such a manner, when in reality, it only detracts from the issue they say they care about.

Some Tiller supporters are confusing recognizing the evil that he did with celebrating his murder.

But I bet I can think of an example of of Tiller’s supporters recognizing the evil somebody did, while not wishing them dead.

Every time a murderer is executed.

You can hate, for example, what Ted Bundy did to Kimberly Leach, the Chi Omega sisters, and his other victims, and still not have wanted to see him fry.

You can hate what he did, in fact, and actually be sorry and upset that he fried.

Not because you thought he’d done no evil, but because you thought killing him was to indulge in that same evil.

THAT is how prolifers can despise what Tiller did, and still not wish to see him murdered.

    Can you understand that?

Christina – what I don’t understand is why you think I don’t know this. I disagree completely with what George Tiller did at his clinic, murdering unborn babies. I also disagree with the murder of George Tiller. I’m not sure you actually read what I wrote.

OK Christina, I see you didn’t read my post, you just copied and pasted the post from your own blog, which is why it was so irrelevant to what I wrote.

    Well said, Kerry.

Just about every major pro-life blog and organization has come out condemning this … there are exceptions, of course … and yet we’re going to get painted with the broad brush.

For now, though, I’m praying for Tiller’s family. Whatever I thought of Tiller, what happened to him and his family was evil and they need healing, now.

While I’m not against the death penalty, I don’t think there is ever a time for one person to take the life of another. This is indeed a profound tragedy for him and his family. His death has shooken (?) me up more than any death since Heath Ledger’s, and this evil not only makes me disappointed as a Wichitan, but as a human being.

Kerry, the very fact you are a Christian and pro-life puts a target on you and others who profess the same ideologies. I don’t know anyone who is thrilled with the doctor’s murder; he had a family, too. It is so tragic to me he felt he needed to make his living by killing others.

Although I did not read the article you referenced to from Kansas City, I hardly think everyone who wanted the doctor’s clinic closed are accomplices to his murder. That is just ridiculous.

It is interesting how you never see pro-choice supporters killing pro-life protesters.

The media doesn’t cover it, but it happens. Right to Life offices attacked. Pro-life activist pastor murdered. Assaults. Threats. Do a search. Violence is wrong on both sides, but the media only covers one side.

  7. Frances says:

I am certainly against the murder of anyone, but I can’t cry tears over this man’s death either. I wish that he had been brought to justice by our court system.

    • onemom says:

Frances – unfortunately now, he is a martyr and this may ultimately lead to even more deaths as the pro-aborts push forward with his so-called “brave work”. How much better it would have been if he had lived and God worked in his heart to repent and become an advocate for the unborn.

  8. Frances says:

God’s timing is certainly always better than our own.
