Friday Flyer

• I forgot it was Friday, and almost missed doing this week’s Flyer.
  
• Snow has been falling here since yesterday afternoon. Mostly light yesterday, but has been more intense today.
  
• Just hanging out at home. Going to get started on Christmas cookies this afternoon.
• Earlier this week I mailed a Christmas card. It was the 23rd mailing of this particular card. In 1987, I was chatting with the man who lead me to the Lord about a story in the news about two friends who had been mailing each other the same Christmas card for 50 years and how that would be a neat thing to do. So, I found a card that was quite appropriate (I was an English minor in college, so you’ll understand that in a minute), and sent it off to him. All we write in the card is the location and date of mailing.
  

• This card has traveled roughly 41,338 miles. That’s 1.66 times around the earth, or nearly 20% of the distance to the moon.
• Every year toward the end of November, whichever one of us does not have the card, always emails the other person to verify that they have it and it is alright. Neither one of us wants to be the person that loses the card.
• In 1987, the card cost me $1.00. We have spent roughly $9.55 on postage (it had a few years overseas, so I am estimating). All tolled, we have spent $10.55 on this one Christmas Card for the last 23 years, or about 45 cents per year.
  
• We are hoping that our children will continue this tradition long after we are gone. It is a little thing, but has become as much of a holiday tradition for us as singing carols and baking cookies.
