Friday Flyer

  • Did you know that apple trees have “king buds”? To get the best apples, growers will remove all except the “king buds”. I also learned recently about the wide variety of uses for soybeans.
  • Hannah has been studying some very interesting lessons on farming around the United States, and she loves sharing all this wonderful information with me.
  • Our friends at Basset Hound Town recently celebrated a basset birthday, and Hannah drew a picture in honor of the event. Left to right is Emma (the birthday basset, which is why she is on a velvet stool); Nell (our Sussex); Sophie (our basset); and Chaps (the Mayor of Basset Hound Town). They are all wearing their party clothes and each has a bowl of ice cream and their own spoons. I thought it was a neat picture:
  • It is 27 degrees here this morning … 60 would feel like a heatwave!
  • I have some thoughts to share about Franklin Graham, the Pentagon, the National Day of Prayer and Islam, but that will take a little more time to write than I have this morning.
  • Last night at bedtime, Hannah didn’t want to read to me – she just wanted to snuggle and kept asking me to sing songs about Jesus. It was a sweet, comforting ending to a long day.
  • Be kind today – seems like the world could use an extra dose of gentleness.

That is a really good drawing. What detail!

Thanks Frances – she did another one that I took to work, but I really should get a picture of it. The drawing is of a lighthouse near here on Lake Michigan. There are two large boats on the Lake. One is full of giraffes and other creatures (like the Ark). There is a smaller boat coming along behind with two people on it – I asked Hannah who that was, and she said it was “Noah and Mrs. Noah, and that there were too many animals on the big boat so they had to take the small one.” She also told me they forgot their map and that’s why they are on Lake Michigan. She is a creative little person!

  2. I just love Hannah’s creativity! She is very talented. Just look at that picture!

You tell Hannah that this was the best birthday card Emma has ever received in her LIFE! We will cherish it forever and I am going to put it on the blog tonight. My favorite part is Emma sitting on the velvet stool!

Hannah, you know Emma better than anyone! Chaps may be the Mayor, but Emma is the QUEEN!

You are the best artist in the world Hannah! We love you more than all of the ice cream in the world!

We sent you another picture of Emma.

Have a great weekend! WE LOVE THE FRIDAY FLYER!

I LOVE Hannah’s drawing of the doggies – it just makes me happy to look at it.

I hope your temps warmed up a bit. It’s been a sunny weekend over here.

Many blessings on your up-coming travels!! Remember, HE is your traveling companion :-)

Thanks Susan – I am trying to remind myself of that (constantly), and also trying to focus on Hannah’s excitement. Still cold here and very windy today. Nothing like the folks in Mississippi are now having to recover from.
