At OneMom’s House

Happy Thanksgiving weekend everybody! We have been busy here at home preparing for Thanksgiving last Thursday and now Christmas preparations. I thought I’d share some photos with you.

Turkey covered in sweet applewood bacon and ready for the oven!
Turkey was great, but that bacon was out of this world!

Time to build the Christmas tree!

A double batch of Chocolate Crinkles! The batter has to spend the night in the refrigerator.

This was my mom's cook book.

First Edition. First Printing. 1963

This is the Chocolate Crinkle recipe in my mom's cook book (page 23). My mom made these every Christmas. I love this page, because it has her handwriting in it where she converted the chocolate squares to cocoa, and all the stains from her spills and splatters are on the page.

If you click on the photos you can make them larger and even see all the details for how to make Chocolate Crinkles! I hope you enjoyed this photo tour of Thanksgiving and Christmas preparations at our house.

The Turkey with bacon (yum!!) looks amazing.

I love the cookbook, complete with stains. That is precious. I’m sure Hannah loves baking cookies with you.

Have a good week! Hope it isn’t toooo cold outside.

Good morning Susan. The dinner was yummy!

The hardest part about baking cookies for Hannah is having to wait! The chocolate crinkles recipe has to sit in the fridge overnight, and so does the dough for cut-out cookies. We will start baking when I get home from work today.

The temp has moderated a little bit. Suppose to be 42 with some sunshine today. Around freezing the rest of the week.

Hey Kerry! Are you familiar with Ann Voskamp, a homeschool mom from Canada? Her blog is “A Holy Experience.” Anyway, she has written a wonderful Advent devotional called “Jesse’s Tree Journey”. It’s a free e-book. You just need to subscribe to her blog to receive it. Her blog is wonderful; I read it daily. Anyway, just thought you might want to use it with your family. The first reading was for yesterday. Here’s the link:

Glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m in agreement with you about these 9 years going by much too quickly. My boys have grown so much in every way this last year. :) So thankful for these children God has given to us for this season. I still like to check in when I can to see how things are with you. :)

Hi Brenda – thanks for letting me know about the blog. I will check that out. Time goes so fast when measured by the growth of our children.

Wow! The bacon got really crispy huh? What did it do to the taste of the turkey?

Holiday traditions are so neat. It brings you back in time and you remember all the fun and happy times in the past. It’s so cool for us to see what others do during this time of year.

LOVE the old cookbook! It looks real thin unless that was just the cover laying on the table. I have old cookbooks too but not sure where I got them from. I’ve grabbed all kinds of things like that from my grandmothers on both sides when they passed on. Nobody else wanted those things so I took them.

So glad you had a great Thanksigiving! We did too. Some of my family had to work but the rest were here.

  4. Hi honey – Love this post and the turkey covered in bacon is to die for! I am going to do this if and when I ever cook a turkey.

I have my Mom’s first Betty Crocker cook book from when she got married. I love your memories of your mommy.

    Cat

    • OneMom says:

I wish I could have mailed you some Cat! It was so good!!

The cooky book is one of my favorite items that I have of my mom’s. I also have years of her journals … what a treasure!
