Final Flyer

  • It is Friday and it is New Year’s Eve, what better time for a Final Flyer!
  • On this last day of 2010, deadly tornadoes have struck in Arkansas. More tornadoes are in St. Louis, Missouri and moving into Illinois.
  • At a Chase Bank in Texas, a bank robber has taken hostages this afternoon.
  • Some surveys I read this morning suggest that people are even more fearful about what awaits them in the coming year than they were just 12 months ago.
  • The headlines tout that the recession is over and things are better, but that doesn’t seem to be ringing true in reality for many in the United States.
  • Do you make New Year’s Resolutions?
  • I am taking the Christmas decorations down today. Normally I take everything down Christmas Day, but we had some company so I delayed the tear down, but I can wait no longer.
  • Gas prices holding at $3.19/gallon in our neighborhood. What are you paying for gas?
  • Our weather forecast is calling for a “flash freeze” tonight (we are at 40 degrees right now and lots of snow melt and fog), which should make the roads really interesting.

Stay safe everybody.

If the recession is over, then I am Humphrey Bogart, because I definitely don’t see that.

    Happy New Year OneMom

I don’t see the recession being over, Kerry. I would like to be optimistic, but with the continued high price (and still rising) of gasoline, I just don’t see that being the case. A lot of people I know personally are still struggling.

Speaking of the price of gasoline, we are at $2.95 per gallon in some places.

I don’t make resolutions for the new year.

By the way, is my new gravatar a bit more readable than the last one? ;)

If the projections of $5/gallon gasoline comes to fruition by the end of 2011, even more people, businesses, and municipalities will be struggling.

The new gravatar is perfect! I like it very much.

I had a moment of panic when I read the title block of this post. Fortunately, the banner right under it had a some clarification.

Regarding the recession being over…I have guarded optimism. My chemical plant has been sold out for the last 3 months and looks sold out for the next 6. In fact, we’ve had to slow down a bit because we run out of railcars at times.

I do see that not everything has caught up and higher gas prices has me concerned.

Happy New Year Vince. I wondered when I titled it “Final Flyer” that it might sound permanent. I’m glad the company you work for is doing well. I do think these ever rising gas prices could take a big bite out of recovery for businesses and families.

I just got gas yesterday and it’s at $2.80 here in the Houston area. We’ve been very lucky during this recession but Obama’s moritoriam on the oil wells wasn’t good.

I work for UTMB in Galveston Texas and fortunately we’re doing better than we have in the past 10 years. Hurricane Ike wasn’t a good thing but one good thing that came out of it is that it gave UTMB a chance to scale down and fix some of it’s financial issues. Luckily I was one that was saved and still have my job of 32 years.

I do hope this year is the year that this recession gives us some relief but it’s just so unpredictable.

Good luck in the new year everyone!!!

  5. Happy New Year to OM and all of her readers. I look forward to 2011! It’s hard to believe but I have been blogging since 2006.

I work for an orthopaedic surgeon and 2010 was the busiest year of his 25 year practice. We were CRAZY busy.

Gas is currently 3.12 per gallon.

Look forward to more OM blogs!
