Stating the Obvious

Yahoo! published a list yesterday of the people who will suffer most in 2011. Let’s see if you’re surprised at any of these:

  • The unemployed. The article goes on to say that this goes without saying. And yet, they said it.
  • The undereducated. Same as the first one considering the 6% difference in the unemployment rate between college grads and high school grads.
  • Workers in shrinking industries. Again, this would be the unemployed or soon to be unemployed.
  • Government employees. This includes fire, police, and school employees. So, one more time, the unemployed.
  • Drivers. Finally, a suffering not just for the unemployed. Of course, while $3, $4, $5/gallon gas will be hard on all of us, how much more so will this increase suffering for the unemployed as they try to find that elusive job? Will those who have jobs find it too expensive to get to work and become unemployed?
  • Homeowners. Home values will continue to decline, as more people go into foreclosure related to … wait for it … unemployment.
  • Spenders. I am assuming this is not the unemployed. Apparently the holiday retail season was pretty good, but with all the other hits that wallets will be taking, the December spending spree is expected to be short-lived.

The bottom-line from this Yahoo! list is that 2011 will be a difficult year, especially for the unemployed. What a surprise.

I wonder how much they paid someone to come up with this list. Talk about stating the obvious!

Oh for pete’s sake. And this is something new? Unemployment trickles down just like high gas prices will trickle down too. The less people make the less they will spend and yadi, yadi. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out.
