#1 nicest thing? I’m pleased to say many nice things – but one of the nicest was a friend of mine from our Bible study here in Zurich had a group of us over to teach us how to make Sushi and she made us a lovely lunch. Plus she provided all the ingredients – and we got to take a maki roll home!
#2 – I love Christmas and always look forward to it. Even when I’m not with family (like this year – my husband and I are traveling to Sicily
#3 – Favorite Christmas tradition? My oldest friend and I exchange Snowmen gifts each year. Plus listening to my favorite Christmas music.
Hi Susan – I’ve never found Sushi appealing, but I’m glad you had an enjoyable outing with friends and learned a new skill you enjoy. Sicily … that sounds lovely!
Earlier this week I practiced one of my favorite Christmas traditions and mailed (the 25th mailing!) the same card that I’ve sent every other year since 1987 to the man who led me to the Lord. Next year he’ll mail it back to me. It’s a Charlie Brown card that we lovingly refer to as “THE Card”. It’s a fun tradition!
I love that tradition!! The same friend who I exchange Snowmen with has sent me the same card, and me back to her – many times! A good card keeps on giving.
Talk about the ultimate gift – leading someone to the Lord!
I am looking forward to Sicily, but of course will be missing my family back in the States.
1.) My Mom has been sick and I was bringing her home from the hospital. On the way home she had all these things she wanted me to do. Well, we didn’t know it but my sister had sent her oldest son to my Mom’s house to clean things up and change her bed. I didn’t have to do it!
2.) Both! I always look forward to Christmas. I like this time of year, getting together with the family and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. But, I’m also glad when it’s all over with. It can be a busy, hectic time of year.
3.) A lot of our traditions have fizzled away as my family is getting smaller and I didn’t have children. But the one thing that I still enjoy is making a batch of my Mom’s favorite Pralines at her house and she helps me dip them out before they harden. And getting together at noon on Christmas day to exchange gifts with the young ones.
Cindy – I’m sorry your mom has been in the hospital … I do hope she is feeling better. What a wonderful surprise to find that your nephew had done the work before you arrived with your mom! I don’t believe I’ve ever had pralines or what it means to dip them out.
The nicest thing in the last two weeks….What a vexing question. Interestingly, I cannot tell. I was sworn to secrecy. So, the second nicest thing would be my BFF running up to my door with an umbrella when she picked me up for our Christmas lunch. Nothing quite like the closeness underneath an umbrella. Nothing like laughing in the rain.
I am looking forward to some aspects of Christmas and looking forward to other aspects being over. I concentrate on the umbrella moments.
I do not have a favorite Christmas tradition. I like doing new stuff every year. Howl ever…..Grandma and I want to make the Dickens brunch a tradition. We like to take an afternoon to visit a beautiful place and have a meal. We talk about the past and make goals for the future. It is very powerful.
Hi Cat – sworn to secrecy, eh? Sounds intriguing! I loved the photos and the story of your trip to the beautiful hotel in Cincinnati with your mom … what a special new holiday tradition. The umbrella story is precious … I miss my old girlfriends with those wonderful comfortable warm moments … I’ve been feeling a bit blue and very lonesome for those old friends and old times.
Dear OM – you have me. I would put you under my umbrella any day, any time. Your words bind us together. Your wonderful thought provoking questions bring us closer. We love our OneMom very much. /–\
My attempt at an umbrella with us under it! hehehe

Thank OM for the thought provoking Thursday.
