Breaking: Mitt Romney is Rich

Newt Gingrich started nagging Mitt Romney last week to release his tax returns even though he’s not required to do so. Governor Romney will release his 2010 returns (not enough for Newt) and his 2011 estimates today. The big surprise will be that Mitt Romney is rich and that he follows the tax laws of our country and pays 13-15% in taxes. The other surprise is that he donates more than 15% to charity (the Mormon Church I assume).

Mitt Romney is rich – no surprise. Mitt Romney complies completely with the tax laws of our country – no surprise. Newt Gingrich is making Romney out to be the bad guy because he’s rich. The bad guy is our tax code – which of course the Fair Tax would take care of completely – but Newt wants everyone to think of him as the “regular guy” in the race, while Romney is the big bad rich guy. Here’s some news for Newt: I’m supporting Ron Paul, but I will take Governor Romney over the former Speaker of the House because I think Newt’s adultery, lying to the House ethics committee, and his need for power to be much more troubling. Newt is not a “regular guy” – he likes to talk about being from Georgia, but it’s been a long time since he was not in the heart of the ugliness of Washington DC. A vote for Newt is a vote for the worst of Washington insiders.

One Response to Breaking: Mitt Romney is Rich

  1. Ken Leonard says:

I was listening to a story about the ads those two are running against each other in Florida and turned to Amy, saying, “They’re proving pretty well that neither of them should be nominated.”

Not, mind you, that each is proving that the other should not be nominated. Gingrich proves conclusively that Gingrich shouldn’t be nominated, and Romney proves conclusively that nominating Romney would be a mistake.

Anyway … Yes, Gingrich is just about the most loathsome Republican candidate out there. As near as I can tell, his current campaign is that he’s of good character BECAUSE he cheated on at least two of his three wives, but that Gov. Romney is of poor character because he’s complied with the law.

I’m finding it very hard to stick to my no-name-calling rule when I think of Gingrich.

And you might remember how I feel about Mitt Romney …
