As I am not finding much inspiration for writing about politics or what’s in the news, I decided to take a moment to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of A.A. Milne – the man who brought us Winnie the Pooh. When I was very small, I remember thinking how nice it would be to live in the Hundred Acre Wood – a gentle neighborhood where neighbors help each other and care about each other.
At our house, we have many “Pooh-isms” that we use on a regular basis, such as:
- Oh bother.
- It’s a blustery day.
- Think. Think. Think.
- I have a rumbly in my tumbly
So, today I remember the man who brought us Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and all the residents of the Hundred Acre Wood – Alan Alexander Milne – you made the world a little friendlier.
“Let’s go and see everybody,” said Pooh. “Because when you’ve been walking in the wind for miles, and you suddenly go into somebody’s house, and they say ‘Hallo Pooh, you’re just in time for a little smackerel of something, and you are, then it’s what I call a Friendly Day.” – The Complete Book of Pooh
Make it a Friendly Day.
