Good morning from over here!
a. Yes – my first was Bobby Sherman. But shortly afterward I had a huge crush on Richard Carpenter, of all people. I admired his musical skills you see. and dreamy harmony vocals.
b. Scary weather stuff – oh yes. 1964 Alaska Big Earthquake – but I was only 5 so I mostly thought it was exciting. Growing up in Alaska, earthquakes and tremors are a part of life. 2nd to that would be the 1980 eruption of Mt. St. Helen. I was driving between Seattle and Billings, Montana with my mom, and we had to detour widely to avoid ash and ended up spending the night in Wenatchee or Walla Walla – somewhere with a W that was NOT where we were headed. Ash everywhere, replacing air filters – and just not knowing when we’d get home was sorta thrilling and mostly a drag.
I’m pleased to say I’ve not been near any Hurricanes or tornadoes.
* sorry, that was long *
c. Where to begin on household chores?
The thing I procrastinate the most is ironing. and windows. But accomplishing both makes me feel wonderful. And the sun is shining right now so I’m very motivated to keep working on the windows.
Have a good weekend
Good morning Susan – so much to respond to!
Bobby Sherman – yep, that was one of mine as well. Also John Denver and Davy Jones. I was sad to hear of his passing yesterday.
Never been in an earthquake. I have a beautiful blown glass Christmas ornament that was made from ash from Mt. St. Helen. Always wanted to live in Walla Walla, Washington just because it is so much fun to say! Weather event for me was the March 1976 ice storm in Michigan. We heard weeks later that our neighborhood was considered ground zero for the storm. For 24 hours we listened to trees die. The creaking, snapping and crashing of the trees was a terrible sound … my mom and I talked about that storm every March. We were without power for at least 10 days.
Chores … floors!
Enjoy the sun, we finally had the arrival of winter yesterday with about a foot of snow (and very impressive winds). Now they are saying we may receive in access of 6 inches tomorrow. Now that it’s March and we’re ready for Spring, no one is very thrilled to see all this snow. With temps about 30 degrees, the snow is very wet which is making the roads very icy. All the schools are closed. I’m delaying my travel to work until daylight.
I wondered if the timing of this question about celebrity crushes was because of Davy Jones. He was a cutie-pie for sure.
but also it sounds like the timing fits with your memorable ice storm. How sad to hear the trees snapping around you.
It must make you miss your Mom, too – when March comes around.
Speaking of lots of snow, my father – still living in Anchorage – has certainly had more snow than usual. So much that the church he founded, still going with another pastor – had the roof cave in last night. Just google Abbott Loop Community Church and you can read about it. Ironically, they just shoveled a bunch of snow off the roof this week.
Sorry, again I’m writing a book. Have a blessed weekend.
Hi Susan – yes, Davy Jones’ death did trigger that particular question. The arrival of March and the ice storm and my mom certainly triggered the weather question.
Alaska has had enormous amounts of snow this year … the pictures out of there have been very impressive. I will google the church and look for the pictures.
We had another 6 inches of very wet heavy snow overnight. Since Wednesday we have had more snow total than we’ve had the rest of the winter total!
It all depends on the word kid. Was I a kid when I had a crush on James Taylor? I was a teen. I guess that is a kid. I cannot tell you howl many times I listened to Fire and Rain while staring at his poster. That song changed my life.

The worst weather events for me have been recently. Last Spring my Mom, the hounds and I were in the storm area at least 20 times. It was the worst weather experience we have ever had. I think this Spring will be even more horrible. Tomorrow they are forecasting massive storm systems in our area.
All of my household chores are my least favorite. I hate housework. Hate, hate, hate housework. All of it. With hounds the housework multiplies. If I win the lottery, the first thing I do is hire a maid service. I will kiss them on the lips and tip well.
hehehe
Yes, the James Taylor crush definitely counts (there are very few rules for the Thursday Three).
A maid service would be fantastic … one of the first things I would do as well!
You, Grandma and hounds be safe today. You do have a basement don’t you?
1 – Crystal Gayle.
2 – That’s tough to say. So many tornadoes when I lived in Texas … I guess that the scariest would be the snow storm that socked out the east coast in the early 90′s. My father and I were driving me back to college, and I-95 was closing behind us. On Monday, when I showed up for my 8am chemistry class, my professor asked why I was there. He told me that everyone north of Richmond was excused for a few days.
Driving through that was pretty hairy at times.
3 – Emptying the dishwasher. I don’t mind loading it, and I don’t even mind washing dishes by hand, but putting them back is a pain.
Ken Leonard recently posted..Quote of the Day – 1/3/2012
Emptying the dishwasher? That’s one I’ve not heard before. I liked washing dishes when I was a kid, but I outgrew that.
1.) Peter Frampton! I just loved his long blonde curly hair and his music too.
2.) Well, living 20 mins from the Gulf of Mexico, I’ve been in a few hurricane’s in my life. When I was 4 months old we were living on Galveston Island and Hurricane Carla came in this direction and caused a lot of problems for my parents. I don’t remember, of course, but have heard stories. In 1983 hurricane Alicia came through and that was really scary with winds. A pine tree came 10 feet from hitting my bedroom that night. But the most scared I’ve ever been was with Hurricane Ike. We were ground zero for that one and the wind wasn’t so bad but the storm surge was a category 4 with 5 being the worse. I was even scared for my job as 45% of our office was laid off. Fortunately, our house was fine because we were 20 mins away from the coast but we had a housefull of others whose homes were flooded and they stayed with us until they could get them repaired. I’ll never forget Ike.
3.) I’m like Cat, I hate it all! When I grow up I’m getting a maid too. Ha!
Peter Frampton … was he in the band that played Pinball Wizard?
OK, maid service for all of us!
Pinball Wizard was by The Who. That was a good group too. Frampton’s most popular album was probably Frampton Comes Alive. Some popular songs were Baby I Love your Way and Do You Feel Like We Do.
Oops. I grew up on classical, big band, and 50s music mostly. The hazards of being an unexpected 4th child and a lot younger than everyone else in the family.
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with 50′s music! My parents listened to Glen Campbell, Otis Redding and John Denver. I really like them too.
